Avatars leading IPD Meetings?

Welcome to the Collaborative Revolution!

Keeping with the advanced technology theme alluded to in the Open Source / Closed Source post below, the article linked below discusses the potential uses of Avatars as a mechanism for increasing an individuals productivity.  Currently, many "gamers" deploy Avatars online as participants in Second Life and Warcraft.  The use of Avatars in online meetings will likely expand as we push the technology envelope.  It will be interesting to see if the Construction Industry takes advantage of tools like these over the next decade or two.

The Construction Industry is woefully behind that Manufacturing Industry when it comes to automation of planning, design and fabrication processes, but small nimble companies intent on increasing the efficiency with which they provide planning, design and construction services have the opportunity to leap to the fore of the technology front.  The deployment of Avatars may become an important piece of the technology puzzle.  Use of Avatars in marketing and education is quickly becoming a realistic option.  As technologies improve the use of Virtual Conference Rooms by advanced Avatars, as described in the linked article, will only expand.

It will be interesting to see whether the new generation of leaders in the Construction Industry leverages tools like these.
