Electric Cars Cause CO2 Emissions?!?!

WTF!?  Barak Obama told me Electric Cars ran on Unicorn Farts and were, therefore, a Zero Emission option.  Puuuuhhhhleeezze.  The science deniers in the Obama Administration really get on my last nerve.  If you want to decrease CO2 emissions to stop the global warming that stopped 16 years ago you may want to to invest in fracking for natural gas and development of advance nuclear technologies because putting a million electric cars on the highway won't really reduce CO2 emissions.

If a typical electric car is driven 50,000 miles over its lifetime, the huge initial emissions from its manufacture [30K Tons Pounds of CO2] means the car will actually have put more carbon-dioxide in the atmosphere than a similar-size gasoline-powered car driven the same number of miles. Similarly, if the energy used to recharge the electric car comes mostly from coal-fired power plants, it will be responsible for the emission of almost 15 ounces of carbon-dioxide for every one of the 50,000 miles it is driven—three ounces more than a similar gas-powered car.

*** Note the correction from 30K Tons to 30K Pounds of carbon emissions.  Thanks to the reader who noted that and posted a comment!

The electric car might be great in a couple of decades but as a way to tackle global warming now it does virtually nothing. The real challenge is to get green energy that is cheaper than fossil fuels. That requires heavy investment in green research and development. Spending instead on subsidizing electric cars is putting the cart before the horse, and an inconvenient and expensive cart at that.

Every time you crunch the numbers and apply real scientific analysis the cost of "green energy" and "renewable energy" suffers in comparison to burning natural gas and utilizing advanced nuclear power plants effectively.  For the record, I don't think we should be burning ANY of our hydrocarbon resources as fuels, but should, instead, be leveraging those resources in other ways.  Advanced nuclear power plants are the greenest and best option for producing power, especially electricity.

You cannot run an advanced civilization on Unicorn Farts!

Oh, state electric car manufacture releases 30K tons of CO2. Unrealistic! Research published by Norwegian scientists Troy Hawkins and others show about 30,000 pounds (not tons!), 30K pounds, 15 tons (no K, meaning thousand). Their research shows overall CO2 use about 80% of a gasoline-powered car for 100,000 miles driven, but 2 to 3 times environmental pollution of water and human environment...which is meaningful, too.

You have really discussed a pretty noticeable issue about the electric cars. I think that these cars are causing of the environmental problems and something should be done immediately about this issue.
