Central Planning Fails

Welcome to the Collaborative Revolution!

The article linked below strikes another blow to the "urban renewal" myth that permeates the planning community.  Given the decay, decadence and decline rampant in our own city centers its hard to imagine planning more of the same, but that's exactly what Vietnam seems to have done.  Planning itself is not bad, but there needs to be some recognition of what the folks in the area want.

I'm reminded of the excellent book by Rick Harrison, Preferbia, in which he details the America's love of the suburb.  This highlights the theme of loving your monsters and performing a little sustainable ju-jit-su on the processes.
